HACK: Prints

There’s no reason to dress in solid blocks of color all the time…unless of course, you are an American Apparel model, in which case you are probably too tired from all the heroin and butt secks to be reading this blog anyway.

For ladies…bright and colorful floral prints are really in this season. Try a dress or some shorts in a fun print like this.

For guys…plaid and flannel will always work, but try to mix it up with a geometric or tribal patterned tee.

WACK: Haggard Feet

I understand that sandals are all the rage, but if your feet look like you’ve been playing soccer with granite stones all day, please cover yourself.

Or take some advice from the homie Kid Sister and get those toes done up (with yo fingernailzzz matchin’).

Hack: Bow ties

A bow tie is old school, adorably nerdy, and wonderfully appropriate at most times. You can rock a bow tie even on casual occasions if you pair it with jeans and Chuck Taylor’s. With bow ties, bright colors are always a must. Get creative; try a polka-dot tie or other patterns.

Even girls can rock the bow tie, as seen with the adorably talented singer, Janelle Monae pictured below. As seen, you can put a twist on the bow tie, by sporting a longer, ribbon-like version.

Wack: Fur

I’m not a member of PETA. I will wear my leather jacket with pride, sorry Pam Anderson. I hate fur for one simple fact: it’s straight fugly. Even faux fur. The past season I saw gorilla/abominable snowman vests and coats make a roaring comeback and all I could do was cry for humanity.

Please say no to this foolishness. Even The Kates: Moss and Bosworth can’t make this atrocity look good.

Naomi Campbell utilizes her fierceness for good by organizing a Fashion Show for Haiti relief.

Campbell organized the first Fashion for Relief event at the Bryant Park tents in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and has since taken it to Tanzania and Mumbai, India. The return to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Feb. 12 comes at the right time, Campbell said.

“Everyone else is trying to help Haiti, and we wanted to do our part on the fashion side of things,” Campbell said in a telephone interview from Paris. “The response has been overwhelming. No one has said `no’ — which means a lot because it’s such a busy time with designers preparing their fall collections.”

Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe is putting together the looks, and designer Marc Jacobs has already created a special Louis Vuitton handbag, one of many items that will go on sale on the Net-a-Porter Web site March 15, with proceeds going to the organization CARE.

Campbell also noted that, to make this happen, designer Charlotte Ronson gave up her original time slot at Fashion Week, when the new season of styles are previewed for editors, retailers and stylists.

“Fashion for Relief only works if everyone comes together and makes it work,” Campbell said.

Nice to see that Nay-Nay isn’t always chucking phones at people’s heads!

I’ve decided to start a new segment called Hack or Wack where I dissect current trends.

Hack = good stuff. Go out and get this now!

Wack=bad deal. Burn this item now!

HACK: TIE-DYE

This hippie trend started making a comeback last year, and doesn’t seem to be fading anytime soon.

WACK: DESIGNER JEANS

Maybe I’m alone in this feeling, but who the hell cares about what symbol is printed on your ass these days? The time when people scrambled to get a pair of True Religions, Rock & Republics, Sevens, or all the old denim du jour is over. At least in my opinion.

That’s not to say that high-end denim is dead, because it’s not. But now the actual quality, color and cut of the piece seems to be of more importance than what weird symbol is branded upon your cheeks.

Sorry, this is a bit late but I’ve actually been busy lately…it’s hard to believe, I know.

Look for in Spring 201:

-Collegiate jacket is still in play as well jogging style trousers

-Tie Dye is still the rage

-Rich prints and hues

Lanvin >>>

-The military boot is not going anywhere this season. Neither are tailored pants. Notice that although the “Skinny” jeans/pants look is still in, the fit is somewhat looser as opposed the skin-tight leggings look of the past couple years.

-The blazer has never really gone out of style but the look is updated with the pinched, narrow shoulders

Armani >>>

-Light colors and subtle texture differences give the classic suit a less harsh feel

Everyone’s favorite time of year is once upon us. I will include pics from the other cities soon, I just didn’t want to overload everyone with a giant mega post!

Recap: PARIS FASHION WEEK

Kanye stepped out with his bald slut of a girlfriend Amber Rose. She looked like a Jersey Shore reject as usual.

Everyone’s heard of the big names and brands, but I’ve decided to occasionally post some of my favorite brands/designers that you may or may not have heard of. They aren’t really underground, just underrated, in my opinion.

LEIFSDOTTIR

Brought to you by those same crazy kids that gave us Urban Outfitters and Anthro. According to it’s website, Leifsdottir is “a sophisticated wholesale apparel line, Leifsdottir debuted in the Fall of 2008. Artistic, timeless and collectible, the Leifsdottir line is eminently wearable, bringing a modern-dressmaker sensibility to life through fine fabrics and tailoring, ornamented with extraordinary details such as unique trims, vintage buttons and beautiful linings.”

Leifsdottir is like a more grown up version of Free People, less quirky than the brands sold at Anthropologie, and much higher quality (in terms of fabric and production) than anything you could ever find at Urban Outfitters. Check it out at Bloomingdales, Nordstrom’s and other fine department stores.
